Prefer to work out from home? Sometimes I do too. It saves on travel time, and plus you can focus on getting your workout done with zero distractions or waiting for things to free up. Not to mention zero membership fees! You can use that extra money to invest in some jazzy equipment to spice your workouts up! Do you think you don't have the space? Trust me you do. Even a small corner in your garage, spare bedroom, or outside will do! So, let's get started. I am going in ranking order as well so if you need to start somewhere start with number 1.


1. Adjustable dumbbells. These are the best way to take your workouts from bodyweight to resistance based! Adjustable dumbbells are the holy grail of home equipment. You can train the upper body, lower body, and core. Plus, countless exercises and variations. You are thinking oh I'll never need 50 or 100lbs. Oh yeah right, think again. After a few months of training, you'll be surprised what kind of resistance you can use for your lower body. Not only that they save SO SO much space. Imagine getting 5lb-20lbs dumbbells, that is 8 individual pieces of equipment. And that's if you go up by 5lbs not to mention if you go up by 2.5 which is yet another bonus of the adjustable dumbbells.


2. Adjustable Bench. A bench is extremely versatile and will allow you to do a variety of both upper and lower body movements. You can use a bench for both progressing movements and regressing movements. For lower, upper, and core workouts, as well as providing a stable service to perform moves giving you a greater range of motion. A bench also takes up minimal space. Set it up in a corner and get it out when you need it.


3. TRX or any suspension trainer. Suspension trainers seem kind of confusing to work with, but it is not as tricky as they seem. You can create amazing and challenging workouts using your body and gravity. This is amazing because you can also purchase a door stop and not only do you have something awesome and versatile to work with at home, but you can put it in your bag and take it with you when traveling as well. Amazing piece of equipment and takes up zero space!


4. Bands. Mini-bands, super bands ALL the bands. Bands are an amazing way to add an extra level of resistance to any exercise or using them alone for an exercise is equally as beneficial. Bands allow for double pull resistance, mimicking the cable machines! Not only are they gold on their own, but they are also super easy to travel with and take up no space.


5. Stability ball. A stability ball is a great way to challenge the core and balance with any exercise. You can use it for endless core training exercises, while also using it for upper body seated movements and lower body movements. Adding the element of balance forces not only the main muscles to fire but also the stabilizer muscles and core muscles to fire. So, WIN-WIN.

Working out at home allows for less time spent doing the things that don't matter, like driving to the gym and back, waiting for people to get off of a machine you may need, gym chit-chat, and gym membership costs. Not only more time but also having your personal space allows you to learn and grow and not have to feel embarrassed to try new things! Go after it, in the comfort of your own space. Not to mention just having a place to clear your mind right at your feet!
